Bottom line: The Seagate One Touch: 5TB in a bus-powered portable drive, no external power brick to carry; main trade-off: spinning platter drive, so far slower than an SSD for large transfers.

Manufacturer description

The Seagate One Touch 5TB portable external hard drive gives you desktop-class capacity in a bus-powered enclosure you can drop in a laptop bag. It arrives ready to plug in over USB 3.0 with the included cable, so Windows and Mac users can start moving photo libraries, project archives, and game captures within a minute of unboxing (Time Machine users may need to reformat first). Backup runs the way you prefer: a single click when you remember, or an automatic daily, weekly, or monthly schedule when you would rather not. The brushed metal enclosure in red keeps the drive looking deliberate…

SpecPicks Verdict

SpecPicks scored Seagate One Touch using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the external storage category. Seagate's external storage lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.

Common buyer scenarios for external storage of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase. Prices and stock are set by the retailer and may have moved since this page was last updated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Seagate One Touch 5TB work with a Mac?

Yes. It ships ready for Windows and Mac over USB 3.0, though reformatting may be required if you want to use it as a Time Machine backup target.

Do I need to plug it into a wall outlet?

No. The One Touch is a portable drive that draws power over the included USB 3.0 cable, so one port runs both data and power.

What warranty and data recovery coverage comes with it?

Seagate includes a two-year limited warranty and a two-year Rescue Data Recovery Service plan (three years in APAC). Check the product listing for current terms.

What software is bundled with this drive?

A one-year Mylio Create subscription and a four-month Adobe Creative Cloud Photography membership. Both must be redeemed within one year of drive registration and are not available in all countries.

Can I schedule automatic backups or is it manual only?

Both. You can back up with a single click, or set automatic daily, weekly, or monthly schedules so the drive handles it without prompting.
