Pros & Cons

Pros

  • ✓ 12TB capacity at 7200RPM with 256MB cache, sized for full NAS or RAID array builds
  • ✓ Enterprise drive specified for 24/7 duty cycles rather than desktop-hours operation
  • ✓ SATA 6Gb/s and hot-pluggable, so it drops into existing server backplanes
  • ✓ Standard 3.5in bay fit for NAS chassis, RAID enclosures and surveillance recorders

Cons

  • ✗ Renewed, not new: prior power-on hours and remaining warranty are not stated in the listing
  • ✗ Model number conflicts between title (ST12000NM0007) and features (ST12000NM0127)
  • ✗ 7200RPM enterprise spindle is audibly louder than 5400RPM NAS drives in a living space
  • ✗ Bare internal drive, so you supply the bay, SATA cable and power; no USB enclosure

SpecPicks scored Seagate Exos x12 12TB SATA 6Gb/s 256MB Cache Enterprise Hard Drive… using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the external storage category. Amazon Renewed's external storage lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here.
