Bottom line: The Avolusion M2 1TB USB 3.0 Portable External Gaming Hard Drive: 7200RPM enterprise-class HDD inside, not the 5400RPM drive typical at this price; main trade-off: internal drive is refurbished, not new, despite the new outer enclosure.

Pros & Cons

Pros

✓ 7200RPM enterprise-class HDD inside, not the 5400RPM drive typical at this price
✓ Bypass USB port means it draws power but still leaves you one usable port
✓ Pre-formatted exFAT and plug-and-play on Windows, macOS, PlayStation and Xbox
✓ Ultra-slim 2.5-inch bus-powered chassis needs no separate AC adapter

Cons

✗ Internal drive is refurbished, not new, despite the new outer enclosure
✗ PS5 games cannot install directly to it; you copy from internal SSD, 3-5 min per title
✗ Needs a re-format before a console will use it, wiping the exFAT preset
✗ USB 3.0 spinning platter speeds, so load times trail any NVMe expansion card
