Manufacturer description

The Crucial X10 4TB Portable SSD packs a full 4TB of NVMe storage into a pocketable matte blue shell that reads at up to 2,100MB/s over USB 3.2 USB-C. That is twice the throughput Crucial rates for the older X9, so a 100GB project folder or a Steam library move finishes in a fraction of the time a portable hard drive needs. It is built for the road: IP65 dust and water resistance plus drop resistance up to 9.8 feet (3 meters) means a bag toss or a rained-on shoot will not end your day. Compatibility is broad, covering Windows, Mac, iPad Pro, Chromebook, Android, Linux, PS4, PS5, and Xbox…

SpecPicks Verdict

SpecPicks scored Crucial X10 4TB Portable SSD using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the external storage category. Crucial's external storage lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.

Common buyer scenarios for external storage of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase. Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the Crucial X10 4TB in real use?

Crucial rates it at up to 2,100MB/s read over USB 3.2 USB-C, which the company describes as twice as fast as the Crucial X9. Actual speed depends on your host port and file sizes; write speed is not published in the listing.

Can I play PS5 or Xbox games directly off the X10?

Crucial lists PS4, PS5, and Xbox among supported devices via USB-C and USB-A. Console makers generally allow PS5 games and Xbox titles from external SSDs with platform-specific limits, so check your console's storage settings for current rules.

Is the Crucial X10 waterproof enough for outdoor shoots?

It carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance and is drop resistant up to 9.8 feet (3 meters). IP65 covers dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, not submersion, so keep it out of pools and deep puddles.

Does it work with a Mac and an iPad Pro without extra adapters?

Yes. The X10 connects over USB-C and USB-A and Crucial lists Mac, iPad Pro, Chromebooks, Windows, Android, and Linux as compatible, so a USB-C Mac or iPad Pro connects directly.

What software comes with the drive and is there a warranty?

Registering the drive gets you three months of Mylio Photos plus and Acronis True Image for photo management and backup. For warranty length and terms, check the current Crucial product listing before you buy.
