Pros & Cons

Pros

✓ Ships as an 8TB bundle: two 4TB Seagate IronWolf NAS drives included, no separate purchase
✓ Quad-core Realtek RTD1619B at 1.7 GHz handles DSM apps and multi-user file sharing
✓ Hot-swap bays let you replace a failed drive without powering the unit down
✓ Three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for external backup targets, UPS signaling, or expansion
✓ DSM software suite is royalty-free: private cloud, remote file access, team folders

Cons

✗ Only 2 GB DDR4 and it is non-ECC, so no bit-rot protection on Btrfs volumes

SpecPicks scored Synology DS223 2-Bay Diskstation NAS 8TB Bundle using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the nas & home servers category. Synology's nas & home servers lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.

Common buyer scenarios for nas & home servers of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase.
