SpecPicks Verdict

SpecPicks scored NETGEAR Orbi 870 Series Tri-Band WiFi 7 Mesh System using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the networking category. NETGEAR's networking lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.

Common buyer scenarios for networking of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase. Prices and stock are set by the retailer and may have moved since this page was last updated.

Key Features

  • WHOLE-HOME COVERAGE WITH NO DEAD ZONES: One router and two satellites create a seamless mesh system covering up to 9,000 sq. ft. for up to 150 devices. Coverage varies based on walls, floors, and layout. Add Orbi 870 Series satellites to extend coverage further.
  • EVERYONE ONLINE AT ONCE, NO SLOWDOWNS: Orbi Tri-Band technology with Enhanced Backhaul reserves a dedicated connection between router and satellites so WiFi stays fast and reliable for every device simultaneously. Preamble puncturing blocks interference for stronger connections.
  • WIFI 7 SPEEDS UP TO 21 GBPS, 2.4X FASTER THAN WIFI 6: Tri-band 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz for streaming, gaming, and video calls. Real-world speeds depend on your connected devices and internet plan. Backward compatible with WiFi 6, WiFi 5, and older devices.
  • WIRED CONNECTION WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST: The 10 Gig port is the WAN internet input only. Four 2.5 Gig Ethernet LAN ports on the router and four 2.5 Gig Ethernet LAN ports on each satellite provide wired connections for computers, gaming consoles, and smart TVs.
  • SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE FREE ORBI APP: Download the Orbi app on iOS or Android to set up your system and manage connected devices and guest WiFi from anywhere. Internet must be active on your modem before setup.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER: Compatible with cable, fiber, DSL, and cellular home internet providers. A separate modem or gateway is required. Some ISP gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode.
