Manufacturer description
This is a fully built Windows 95 Pentium MMX machine, complete with a sound card, 2d accelerator, extra RAM, a CD drive, floppy drive, and a CF card slot. The windows installation currently on it is a little shaky, so you'll probably have to install your own. Works well, it's based on a IBM PC 340. I replaced the top cover since the plastic on the original became brittle and began to fall apart. I've covered the plastic in 303 protectant several times to ensure that doesn't happen this time around. I've included bits and bobs that came with the case if you want to swap parts out.
SpecPicks Verdict
SpecPicks scored IBM Personal Computer 340 using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the retro cpus category. IBM's retro cpus lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.
Common buyer scenarios for retro cpus of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase. Prices and stock are set by the retailer and may have moved since this page was last updated.
