See our review methodology.

A 1440p gaming PC built from the r/buildapc consensus parts in October 2026 pairs a Ryzen 7 7700X with a Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB. Per Gamers Nexus' RX 9070 XT review, that card averages 109 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p Ultra and 118 fps in Dying Light 2 at High. It is the value pick at this tier because of price: Tom's Hardware's tracker listed the best U.S. prices at $790 for the RX 9070 XT and $1,119 for the RTX 5070 Ti on September 28, 2026 (Tom's Hardware). The live total for all eight parts follows.

This page is the 1440p tier of the Reddit-consensus gaming PC build, on its own URL so the parts, the total and the frame rates for one resolution sit in one place. The 1080p build and the 4K build follow the same format. To swap a part and re-price the whole list, open the PC Builder.

What the RX 9070 XT delivers at 1440p

All averages below come from one source, Gamers Nexus' RX 9070 XT review. The RTX 5070 Ti column, the card the consensus names as the alternative, uses Gamers Nexus' RTX 5070 Ti review and, for Cyberpunk 2077, its RTX 5070 review, which includes 5070 Ti results.

Every game in the set averages above 80 fps at 1440p on the 9070 XT, and six of seven are above 100. Where both cards have the same test, they finish within a few frames of each other in raster: 185 vs 187 in Final Fantasy XIV, 109 vs 108 in Cyberpunk 2077, 83 vs 87.2 in Wukong. The gap is ray tracing. With medium ray tracing and FSR Quality, the 9070 XT averages 48 fps in Black Myth: Wukong at 1440p (Gamers Nexus). Readers who play ray-traced games first should price the RTX 5070 Ti swap in the PC Builder and compare the two totals.

Why each part

CPU — Ryzen 7 7700X. Eight cores on AM5. At 1440p the GPU sets the frame rate in most games, so an X3D chip buys less here than at 1080p high refresh. The same B650 board takes one later; the 4K build uses the Ryzen 7 9850X3D.

Cooler — Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. The 7700X has no boxed cooler. The dual-tower air cooler is the consensus default at every tier.

GPU — Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB. 16 GB of VRAM, and raster frame rates level with the RTX 5070 Ti in the shared tests above. As of September 28 it also cost $329 less at the best U.S. price (Tom's Hardware). That price gap is why the 9070 XT, not the 5070 Ti, anchors this tier.

Motherboard — MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi. ATX B650 with Wi-Fi. A single-GPU build does not need X670's extra lanes.

Memory — 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30. Per Tech Insider, 32 GB DDR5 kits ran $429–$499.99 in late September 2026, up from about $90 in August 2025, because memory makers moved capacity to HBM for AI accelerators. That puts memory at about the price of the CPU. It is still the consensus spec for AM5.

Storage — Samsung 990 Pro 2TB. 2 TB is the floor the hub guide sets, because large games fill 1 TB quickly. Check the Samsung against other 2 TB Gen4 drives on the day you buy, since storage prices also moved in 2026.

PSU — MSI MAG A850GL 850W. 850 W 80+ Gold, ATX 3.1. It leaves room for an RTX 5070 Ti swap without changing the PSU.

Case — Corsair iCUE 220T RGB Airflow. An airflow mid-tower for ATX. Check the GPU's length against the case before buying any 9070 XT. More options are in the PC case buying guide.

Step down, step up

  • Step down: the 1080p build uses a 12 GB Arc B580. Per Gamers Nexus, the B580 averages 53 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p Ultra, about half the 9070 XT's 109.
  • Step up: the 4K build moves to an RTX 5080 and an X3D CPU.
  • Same tier, ray tracing first: swap the GPU for an RTX 5070 Ti and keep everything else. The 850 W PSU already covers it.

Who this build is for

  • Yes: 1440p monitors at 120–165 Hz, raster-heavy games, and readers who want 16 GB of VRAM without RTX 5070 Ti pricing.
  • No: path-traced or heavily ray-traced games at 1440p. Those are the RTX 5070 Ti's ground.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 1440p gaming PC cost to build in 2026?
This page prints the live total of its eight parts at Amazon prices read in the last 24 hours. The GPU and the memory are the two largest lines: 32 GB DDR5 kits ran $429-$499.99 in late September 2026, per Tech Insider.
RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti for a 1440p build?
In raster they finish within a few frames of each other in the Gamers Nexus tests both cards share (185 vs 187 fps in Final Fantasy XIV, 109 vs 108 in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p). On September 28, 2026, Tom's Hardware listed the best U.S. prices at $790 and $1,119. The 5070 Ti is the pick for ray-traced games.
How many fps does the RX 9070 XT get at 1440p?
Per Gamers Nexus at 1440p: 197 fps in Resident Evil 4, 145 fps in Dragon's Dogma 2 (Ultra), 118 fps in Dying Light 2 (High), 109 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra) and 83 fps in Black Myth: Wukong (High).
Do I need an X3D CPU for 1440p gaming?
Not to start. At 1440p the GPU sets the frame rate in most games, so the Ryzen 7 7700X is the consensus pick here. The same B650 board takes a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D later.
Is 850 W enough for this build?
Yes. The 850 W ATX 3.1 unit covers the RX 9070 XT and leaves room to swap in an RTX 5070 Ti without changing the PSU.
