SpecPicks Verdict

SpecPicks scored Seagate Backup Plus Slim 1TB External Hard Drive Portable HDD using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the external storage category. Seagate's external storage lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.

Common buyer scenarios for external storage of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase. Prices and stock are set by the retailer and may have moved since this page was last updated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with a Mac out of the box?

It connects to both Windows and Mac computers via the included USB 3.0 cable, but reformatting may be required to use it with Time Machine.

Do I need a separate power adapter?

No. The drive draws power over the included USB 3.0 cable, so a single cable handles both data and power.

How much usable space do I actually get?

It is sold as a 1TB drive, and Seagate notes that available storage capacity may vary from the stated figure after formatting.

What warranty comes with it?

A two-year limited warranty is included. Check the product listing for current terms and coverage details.

Is the included Adobe Creative Cloud offer worth anything?

You get a complimentary two-month membership to the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan, which covers Adobe's photo and video editing apps for that period.
