Pros & Cons

Pros

  • ✓ 18TB capacity in one desktop enclosure - no multi-drive juggling for large backups
  • ✓ USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 backward compatibility for older Windows machines
  • ✓ Plug-and-play on Windows PCs - no driver install before first transfer
  • ✓ Western Digital drive internals, the same platform WD ships in its own NAS lines

Cons

  • ✗ Desktop form factor needs the bundled AC adapter - not bus-powered or portable
  • ✗ Ships formatted for Windows; Mac users must reformat before writing
  • ✗ Single-drive enclosure with no RAID or built-in redundancy
