Manufacturer description

The Seagate Backup Plus 1TB Portable External Hard Drive (STBU1000102) is a pocket-sized USB 3.0 drive built around one job: making backups something you set up once and stop thinking about. The bundled Seagate Dashboard software gives you a one-click Protect plan or a custom backup schedule, so your documents, photos, and video libraries get copied on a cadence you choose rather than whenever you remember. The Save feature pulls user-generated content down from your favorite social networks, and Share pushes multiple files back up in a single batch. If you move between platforms, the drive…

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Seagate Backup Plus 1TB work with a Mac without reformatting?

Yes. The drive ships with a pre-loaded NTFS driver for Mac, so you can install it and use the same drive interchangeably between PC and Mac computers without reformatting.

Is this drive fast enough for everyday backups?

It uses USB 3.0 for quick data transfer rates, which is well suited to scheduled document, photo, and video backups. You can also upgrade to Thunderbolt or FireWire 800 using an additional adapter, sold separately.

How do I get Thunderbolt on this drive?

Remove the top cover to access the port, then attach the available Thunderbolt adapter. The adapter is not included in the box, so check the product listing for the current accessory options.

Do I get a full 1TB of usable space?

No. Seagate notes that available storage capacity may vary, so formatting overhead and any pre-loaded software leave somewhat less than the advertised 1TB free for your files.
