SpecPicks Verdict
SpecPicks scored Cable Matters 8K Unidirectional DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Adapter using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the accessories category. Cable Matters's accessories lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.
Common buyer scenarios for accessories of this kind: matching it to an existing build, replacing a failing part, or upgrading from a previous-generation equivalent. Check the spec table below against your current setup — particularly socket / form-factor / power-rating fields — and confirm compatibility on the retailer's listing before purchase. Frequently Asked Questions
Will this let me connect my PS5 or Xbox to a DisplayPort monitor?
No. This adapter is unidirectional and only runs from a DisplayPort source to an HDMI display. Cable Matters explicitly lists PS5 and Xbox as incompatible.
Can it really do 4K at 240Hz?
Yes, it supports up to 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, and 4K@240Hz. Your GPU's DisplayPort output, the HDMI display, and the cable all have to support that mode too.
Does it support G-Sync or FreeSync?
No. VRR, G-Sync, and FreeSync are not supported on this adapter. If adaptive sync is essential, use a native HDMI or DisplayPort connection instead.
Do I need to buy an HDMI cable separately?
Yes. A Certified HDMI 2.1 cable is required and is not included. A standard HDMI 2.0 cable will not carry 8K@60Hz or 4K@240Hz.
Will it work with my RTX 4090 and an LG C4 OLED?
That is the intended pairing. Cable Matters lists the RTX 4090, 4080, and 4070 plus AMD RX 7900 and RX 6900 as source GPUs, and the LG C4 OLED and Samsung S95D among target displays.
