Manufacturer description

The WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB with heatsink is Western Digital's gaming-first NVMe drive, and the spec sheet backs the positioning: sequential reads up to 7,300 MB/s and writes up to 6,300 MB/s across the PCIe Gen4 M.2 2280 form factor. The 2TB tier is the sweet spot for modern installs, where single titles routinely consume 100GB or more, and it is built on SanDisk TLC 3D NAND. The bundled heatsink is the part that matters during long sessions: it helps the SN850X hold peak speeds instead of thermally throttling mid-raid. SpecPicks scored Sandisk WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the ssds & storage category. Sandisk's ssds & storage lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB?

Up to 7,300 MB/s sequential read and up to 6,300 MB/s sequential write. The 7,300 MB/s figure applies to the 1TB through 4TB capacities.

Does this version come with a heatsink?

Yes. This is the heatsink model (WDS200T2XHE). WD offers the heatsink option on the 1TB and 2TB SN850X drives to help maintain performance during intense gaming.

Will it fit my PC or console?

It is a standard M.2 2280 NVMe drive. Confirm your motherboard or console has clearance for the heatsink version, since add-on heatsinks add height to the slot.

What is Game Mode 2.0 and do I need extra software?

Game Mode 2.0 is exclusive to the SN850X and is enabled through the downloadable WD_BLACK Dashboard, which is Windows-only. The Dashboard also monitors drive health and controls RGB lighting.

Is 2TB enough, or should I size up?

2TB holds roughly a dozen or more current AAA installs at 100GB-plus each. The SN850X line scales to 8TB if you need more, though only the 1TB-4TB tiers hit the 7,300 MB/s read rating.
