Manufacturer description

The Crucial X9 1TB Portable SSD is built for people who move large files often and would rather not wait on a spinning drive. Sequential reads run up to 1050MB/s over USB 3.2 Gen 2, so a folder of RAW photos, 4K footage, or a Steam library copies across in a fraction of the time a traditional portable hard drive needs. The USB-C connection works with Windows, Mac, iPad Pro, Chromebook, Android, Linux, PS4, PS5, and Xbox, and a USB-A option covers older desktops and laptops that never got a Type-C port. Durability is the other half of the pitch. Crucial rates the X9 for IP55 water and dust…

SpecPicks Verdict

SpecPicks scored Crucial X9 1TB Portable SSD using a rating × review-volume × price-fit model applied to published specs and reviews across the ssds & storage category. Crucial's ssds & storage lineup sits within the broader category mid-tier; price and specs are the deciding factors over brand loyalty here. Judge it on the specification table and the price rather than on sentiment: check the figures that decide your use case, then put it side-by-side with two or three close alternatives in the Compare tool before clicking through.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the Crucial X9 1TB?

Crucial rates it at up to 1050MB/s over a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection. Actual speed depends on the host port; a USB 2.0 or older USB-A port will cap it well below that.

Can I play PS5 or Xbox games directly from this drive?

Crucial lists PS4, PS5, and Xbox among the supported platforms. Consoles generally run last-gen titles from external SSDs and use them as storage for current-gen titles, so check your console's storage settings for the specifics.

Does it work with a Mac and an iPad Pro?

Yes. Crucial lists Windows, Mac, iPad Pro, Chromebook, Android, and Linux compatibility through the USB-C connection, with USB-A supported as well.

How rugged is it really?

It carries an IP55 rating for water and dust resistance and is drop resistant up to 7.5 feet (2 meters). That covers rain, dust, and a fall off a desk, but not full submersion.

What software comes with it?

Registering the drive after purchase gets you three months of Mylio Photos plus and Acronis True Image. Check the product listing for current warranty terms.
